We can approach designing power supplies four different ways, each with its benefits and drawbacks. We look at the entire system and whether it's going to be a low production/high value project or if it needs to be mass-produced and requires multiple sources for continued production reliability. Off-the-shelf power supplies solve the problem of availability. We can also customize the off-the-shelf power supplies providing a more functional product. We can also design a modular system which is a fast approach but sometimes requires more expensive modules. We can also provide a fully custom design, which can be fully owned by the client and thus eliminating any chance of product obsolescence while providing the freedom of multiple sourcing.
